As we saw previously, Satan's rebellion was rooted in two things ---

a disbelief in God's authority
&
a desire to be equal with God.

Now, we are about to see both those things again, as we return to Genesis 3, where Eve has just told the serpent that they are not allowed to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil...

Notice the serpent's response ---

Genesis 3:4-5 "... the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. (v.5) For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

With the words "you will not surely die", the serpent (Satan) clearly encourages disbelief regarding both God's authority and His warning. The serpent even goes so far as to call God a liar, stating that they won't really die if they eat the fruit.

Next, with the words "you will be like God," Satan encourages a desire for equality with God. Here, Satan implies that once they are capable of "knowing good and evil", Adam and Eve will then be qualified to assume the same level of authority as God Himself, and be free to choose their own boundaries.

As you can see, Satan is encouraging Eve to embrace the same philosophy that results in his being thrown out of heaven.

I think most of you probably know what happened next ---

Genesis 3:6 "... when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate."

Sin has just arrived on the earth.
