Having covered some of the basics, we can now return to our story, where we find that Adam and Eve have now had kids... 15

Two of their children are sons... one named Cain, the other named Abel.
For the sake of keeping things short here, we can just skip to the bottom line in this story,
which is that Cain eventually ends up killing Abel.

The question is ---
How did Cain become capable of such an act?
He was not physically present 'in the garden' (and didn't physically 'eat the fruit').
So where did his rejection of God's authority and his own violent action come from?

The answer to these questions lies in what we saw a bit earlier... This story illustrates that even though he wasn't physically present 'in the garden', Cain (like the rest of us) had been spiritually present... Like the rest of us, he had been present "in the loins of" Adam.

This story underscores the fact that the sin in the garden was not simply a case of Adam and Eve's failure... Here, it is demonstrated that Adam and Eve were not alone when they 'ate the fruit' that Satan offered... This story offers visible proof that from 'within Adam's loins', Cain was spiritually present and had participated in 'eating that fruit' (as we all did). And now, his previous (spiritual) rejection of God's authority and boundaries has manifested itself in an overtly visible (and physical) way.

Cain's killing of Abel must have been quite a shock to Adam and Eve. Not all that long ago, Adam and Eve had known perfect unity with God and with one another. But now, within just one generation, Satan's false 'freedom' has demonstrated its one true potential... the destruction of 'unity' and the introduction of chaos and suffering. Our new 'freedom' has isolated us to the point where we are capable of killing each other, as Cain has just proven.

In summary, this story serves to illustrate the fact that we were all there 'in the garden'.
Consequently, we have all inherited exactly the same 'inward spirit' that has enabled Cain to kill his brother.
