Way back in the story of Abraham and Isaac, we saw that Isaac's 'miraculous birth' hinted that those who would eventually descend from him and inherit the 'promised land' might likewise be descended from a miraculous birth somehow.
Indeed, even the prophet Isaiah pointed
to a 'miraculous birth' for Israel's long-awaited 'Deliverer'. 59
And sure enough... a miraculous birth is exactly what we come to now ---
Matthew 1:18-21 "Now the birth of Jesus... was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. (v.19) Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. (v.20) But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. (v.21) And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins".
This should definitely qualify as
a 'miraculous birth'...
Here, we have a woman who is said to have
conceived through the power of the "Holy Spirit".
And... ummmm.... I'm sorry, but I can't possibly explain how that actually happened. But if nothing else, one would assume that such a miracle would at least be within the realm of possibility for God. And remember... this event does fit perfectly with the symbolism found in the story of Isaac.
At least the reason for this man's 'miraculous birth' is explainable...
It has to do with the fact that
in Jewish theology,
the 'curse of sin' (and thus 'death'), is passed on through the male
bloodline.
Basically, this is because the male (Adam) was the 'first-created' (according to the bible), and was thus endowed with both a higher level of authority and a higher level of accountability. Thus, responsibility for the 'sin in the garden' was ultimately laid at Adam's doorstep.
So... "What's the point?" you may wonder...
The point here is that Jesus was
not descended from any earthly male...
Jesus was not related to Joseph by blood...
Remember... he was miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit of God.
Thus, although fully 'man', he did not directly inherit man's 'curse' of sin,
nor its penalty which is 'death'.
We will be taking a deeper look at this subject shortly.
But first, let's look at the tabernacle's symbolism and see if Jesus' birth fits the picture thus far...
Early on, we saw that in the tabernacle's
symbolism, the "Most Holy Place"
represents the place of God's 'presence' & 'dwelling place' (i.e. 'heaven').
Thus, since Jesus is essentially said to be the "Son" of God, this would essentially mean that he ---
Or, to put it a bit more precisely ---
As you can see, the tabernacle's symbolism seems to depict this quite well.
So... is this just an amazing coincidence?
Or is this the way the tabernacle's symbolism is meant to be understood?
Well... by all means, go to the next chapter and consider the continuing evidence ---
